ABOUT OUR SONGS

New Year - About the song

The Story of New Year

We have been a couple for over 11 years & at a friend’s wedding on New Year’s Eve a couple of years ago, we realised we had shared that NYE midnight moment together every year since we first met & we wanted to do so every year moving forward. This inspired ‘New Year’, a soulful & uplifting love song about always having an anchor - a special someone by your side to bring in each new year with. This festive anthem is a declaration to one another - despite everything that might be going on around us, we will always have each other & we don't ever want to start a New Year without the other person.

About the Recording:

The song was written & recorded by Toby & Pip with good friend (+ legendary jazz artist) Anthony Strong producing the song, providing piano & other instrumentation & arrangements. It was recorded & produced in London & is self-released under our own label Peaches Records. Drums were recorded in Denmark by Joel Stumbaugh with Phil Ward featuring on solo electric guitar.

Lyrics:

Starved for attention & drowning in doubt,
Choosing the people I can’t live without.

Learning to share everything that I own,
Trying to show you just how much I’ve grown

It’s all new, all new for someone, someone like me, thinking in every step that
We are meant to be

And I will always be here
By your side at new year
& I don’t ever want to start
A New year without you, a new year without you

All of our days are spent rushing around,
Chasing careers & our peers on the ground,

Casting aside the ones that all care,
We’re filling the tank but we’re going nowhere

It’s all new, all new for someone, someone like me, thinking in every touch that
We are meant to be

I will always be here
By your side at new year
& I don’t ever want to start
A new year without you, a new year without you
A new year without you, a new year without you

Seasons will change & we both will grow old,
& we know that our bodies won’t do what they’re told.

Give love with ubiquity, give love to the earth,
We’ll commiserate dying, but we’ll celebrate birth

It’s all new, all new for someone, someone like me, thinking in every breath that
We are meant to be

I will always be here
By your side at new year
& I don’t ever want to start
A new year without you, a new year without you
A new year without you, a new year without you

Little Lady - Toby & PIp - About the Song

The story of ’Little Lady’

‘Little Lady’ is an autobiographical song based on our early experience of parenthood & it is written as a declaration to our daughter Josie, who inspired the song. It is joyful & uplifting and we hope it will bring joy to others who either have a little lady of their own or once were a little lady themselves. Josie seems to like it which is a good start!

Our second single, it's about the transformation you go through when becoming a parent for the first time - how a new life can change the way you view the world & yourself. How it makes you want to be the best you can be, & do the best you can do for your child.

The Music Video

Since our daughter's birth Toby has filmed one second of her life everyday on his phone (he continues to do so) & the music video is made entirely from these daily ‘snapshots’. We both chose our favourite clips for the music video (Top 100ish) keeping chronological order so we see her starting on day one as a newborn baby in May 2018, growing up, learning to walk, talk & run, all the way up to the date of the single’s release in November 2020.

Two & half years of her life in two & a half minutes, we think this feel-good video captures some of the joys of parenting & being part of a child’s early years.

‘Little Lady’ is our second official single and we are currently working on our third which will be released before the end of 2020.

LITTLE LADY - Lyrics:

You arrived in the middle of the day,
Staring at me before you looked away,
Eyes burning blue, I know it’s true,
The first time that you saw me, yeah you smiled.

Now I will get to see, all that you will be,
Even if this big bad world is going crazy,
& honestly, if there’s nothing wrong with me,
I will do the best I can for my little lady.

Snapshots that are burned into my mind,
Memories I’ll never leave behind,
The more I know, the more I grow,
& I’ll think about you daily til I die!

Now I will get to see, all that you will be,
Even if this big bad world is going crazy,
& honestly, if there’s nothing wrong with me,
I will do the best I can for my little lady.

Oh, I will admit that I’m scared & I don’t know where to start.
Losing control can be hard, but I will play my part,
I’ll take you in my arms, I’ll keep you safe from harm, & I know!

I will get to see, all that you will be,
Even if this big bad world is going crazy,
& honestly, if there’s nothing wrong with me,
I will do the best I can for my little lady.
